I figured that almost one month has past since my last Blog Entry. The reason for that long time without any entries is pretty simple to explain --> Work!
Anyways,
time flies up here, Its incredible but I’ve got now halftime here in Iqaluit. I’m
living exactly 4 Months now up here near the Arctic Circle. I met so much
different people and I’ve also seen a
lot of new things. From now on I have another 4 months before I’m Heading up
down south to Ottawa at the 2nd of April 2012. Meanwhile I felt the
Icecold Hand of an arctic Winter. The last week was very rough. Life is not
easy when you have temperatures of around negative 44° degrees. So I had no other
choice than buying the most expensive jacket ever. I own a Canada goose Jacket
since last week. Maybe one of you guys knows what the name Canada goose stands
for. I definitely made a hot deal with that jacket. I paid 350 $ for a used
one. Original price for that model is around 650 $ incl. GST. Anyways, this
parka will help me through that hard Arctic Winter
But there are not only negative things that I can tell you about the coldness.
Obviously the natural spectacle is changing too. Every morning when I climb up
the small hill to the Frobe, I‘ve got an incredible view all over the
Frobisher Bay during the Sunrise. In the background you can see a mighty “Icewall”
of clouds. So, you’re also able to see the Coldness. Stunning!
Last Thursday I finally had the pleasure to go out. The first time I’ve seen anything else than the Frobisher Inn. I went out for Supper at the Hotel Arctic (formerly known as Nova Inn). Was pretty good! Afterwards on my way home, I had the pleasure to see a natural spectacle at it’s best, the northern Lights. Bright, clearly and just giant! Like I said in my first blog entry about the Northern lights, its an indescribable spectacle that you have to see on time in your life by yourself! It’s magic!
Further, there is not much that I can tell you about my freetime Life! Meanwhile I changed my job again inside the Hotel. I’m working now at the Front Desk. Here I have to do everything around Hotel reservations, billing and all the usually stuff around Hotel business. After one week in Training, ive finished now 1 1/5 week on my own. Sometimes you have “one of those days”, there is nothing you could do. Last Sunday I had one of those days. I responded around 150-180 phone calls and also took care about all the problems of the guest that were around my Front Desk. I also had a 12 hour shift to kill, 8am-8pm… without break. I can tell ya, rough!!! At least I also had to work in the night at my part-time job at Northmart. So I hit another 4 hours that day. I had 3 days like that… 16 Hour shifts.. I’m really working hard for my money! Meanwhile it’s the 5th of December. So Christmas is coming around soon. I’m really excited to see the Canadian Christmas. I have already an invitation for Christmas dinner, so I really hope that I don’t have to work that day!
By the way here is the time schedule for the daylight! Its dark almost All day long!
Sunrise: 8:51 am
